Sending virtual hugs to all on this wonderful Christmas Day! Wishing you and your family and circle of friends cheer, happiness, laughter, and peace during the Merry-Go-Round of life in 2020. Yes, I said it. The year 2020 has been no crystal stair for many. During this year of a multitude of challenges, I am often reminded of the MOTHER TO SON poem by Langston Hughes. In his own words, it goes like this:
“Well, son, I’ll tell you:
Life for me ain’t been no crystal stair.
It’s had tacks in it,
And splinters,
And boards torn up,
And places with no carpet on the floor—
Bare.
But all the time
I’se been a-climbin’ on,
And reachin’ landin’s,
And turnin’ corners,
And sometimes goin’ in the dark
Where there ain’t been no light.
So boy, don’t you turn back.
Don’t you set down on the steps
’Cause you finds it’s kinder hard.
Don’t you fall now—
For I’se still goin’, honey,
I’se still climbin’,
And life for me ain’t been no crystal stair.”
I have had some serious reflections about 2020. Now, as we are about to close out this year, the following song CONQUEROR by the Empire Cast, Estelle, and Jussie Smollett came to mind:
“Life is like a big merry-go-round
You're up and then down
Going in circles tryin' to get to where you are
Everybody's been cutting you out
But where are they now?
Sitting in the same old place
Just faces in the crowd
We all make mistakes
You might fall on your face
But you gotta get up!”
Through it all and as the world continues to go round and round, up-and-down, I wish all of you a very Merry Christmas with joy, love, and peace. To that end, I believe and pray 2021 will be a better year!
Christmas blessings to all,
