As history continues to unfold, here we are again today still fighting for equal justice and equal rights, equal and human rights, and equal pay. During times of ongoing marches, demonstrations, riots, and senseless deaths and murders, these injustices ae brought to our attention even more. Honestly, it feels and looks more “divided” instead of the “United” States of America. With all the chaos and turmoil, it is downright disheartening and sickening to be once considered a leader in the free world and now viewed as a laughingstock.
As America continues to deal with her past transgressions, we as inhabitants must do our part. There is a lot of territory to make up for mistakes and to right wrongs throughout history. Though an imperfect nation of multicultural people, wrongdoings and mistreatment must be acknowledged and confessed as a start. For we are fully aware of the pain caused by sins over decades and centuries ago that have grossly and adversely affected multiple generations of certain people. To right wrongs, America must be willing to deal with the long-term consequences and apologize to help us move forward as a nation. She must take responsibility and the time is now. No more excuses. Moreover, America must recognize, accept, and apologize to everyone who was directly or even indirectly affected. Learning from past mistakes is part of our Nation’s healing process. Moreover, we should change our egregious and subtle actions, behaviors, and words that continually fuel cultural and racial divides. These changes along with lessons learned should enable all of us to have better experiences and relationships. To move forward during these turbulent times of COVID-19 and RACISM-20, America must change to heal for the betterment of all people. It is especially needed during heightened times of tension for effective, sustainable changes.
As a nation, we must do this now for us and our future generations. Today, as a mother and grandparent, I want and demand better from America for my children and grandchild(ren) – specifically, FREEDOM AND EQUALITY. Also, I want my grandchild, future grandchildren, future great-grandchildren, and others to come to grow up having better and more opportunities than I had. To that end, I remain prayerful, hopeful, and cautiously optimistic.
