This is a continuation of AMPED, LLC’s five-part series—Part 3. “Surround yourself with people who push you! It is very important to be surrounded by a close network of people who genuinely have your best interest at heart. I refer to them as an “inner circle” especially during your journey toward success.

I recall a situation that occurred years ago when a young person I know, labeled a mover-and-a-shaker, was on fast track to become a senior leader of their organization. Unfortunately, due to the demise of some jealous co-workers and suppose-to-be friends, the person fell short of their leadership goal. Failure was not due to the knowledge, skills, abilities, and other talents of this individual, it was mainly due to others not wanting them to succeed. Rather than pushing this person forward, behind the scenes so-called friends and co-workers were pulling this individual down though character assassination. But fortunately, the pull-down from others did not last long. For had it not been for a selective inner circle of coaches, mentors, teachers, and others, the sabotage would have lasted. Later, this individual overcame the negative forces in play to circumvent success. Not only did this person meet their leadership goals and expectations, they exceeded them and became not only a successful senior leader but a well-known leadership role model, nationally.

Now, take a moment to reflect over your life and the people in it. Do they tend to help you grow by pushing you forward, or do they tend to pull you down? During your journey, we should choose our inner circles wisely for reaching your destination. So, I encourage you to inventory and/or re-evaluate people in your inner circles and others who surround you. Your inner circle should be a key to your success.
