Inspiration comes to me from many venues, oftentimes most unexpected. This morning, I was not only inspired about creating this blog, which is my first, but was more motivated to share it. Recently, I was so inspired from a convo with my son about him continually striving to make a difference through leadership and community service which is my inspiration for this blog.
My son passionately articulated his plans for today which included donating time, energy and resources, and leading a blended leadership-community event for his work team. As a FedEx manager, his plans were to:
📷 Lead and provide a regular staff meeting along with a fun teambuilding session at an off-site location; and
📷 Tour the FedEx Family House located near Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital and engage his staff/team members with children who had catastrophic illnesses by baking cookies for them and their families as part of community service.
In his own words: “I’m striving to make a difference”! After hearing this, pride briefly overcame my senses to the point where I had to take a moment to take it all in. For I knew this was his developmental character. This is who he is – a natural leader and caring human being. Then, I reflected on what it would have been like had I been there to witness another one of his shining moments. To that end, son, you always say, I inspire you – just to let you know, you inspire me! Thank you for being and doing you while making a difference through leadership and community service.
Before closing, allow me to take a second wind. Following that convo with my son, I reflected on others I’ve encountered who too are making a difference in the community. For example, kids bagging groceries neatly for me through checkouts, or just by taking the time to politely say “thank you” with a smile. For me, gestures like these may be small; yet powerful and meaningful. Bigger differences may showcase themselves as male teenagers open doors and allow first entry for females which maybe a result of positive influences and good energy that children project from good, respectable upbringings. It makes me smile to witness folks respecting adults/elders and the non-use of profane words and derogatory gestures. As an adult, such is the case of my son and perhaps you and I, we should strive to succeed by making a difference – large or small – just because!
Thank you all for reading this blog for I hope you too are inspired to make a difference. Also, I encourage you to:
